Inferno Protocol System Requirements

Inferno Protocol is a Windows Steam title. There is no Mac listing and no Linux listing on the store page. If you are trying to run it through a compatibility layer, you are off the supported path. This page reprints the official Steam requirements, then adds controller, storage, and launch-week notes so you do not host a six-player Jungle session on a laptop that already struggles in Junkyard.

Official minimum

• Storage: 25 GB available space

Minimum is “the maze will boot.” It is not “six players, foliage, night vision, and streaming.” Auto graphics detection was added to turn low-end GPUs down and to stop auto-exposure from white-outing on weak cards. Use that. If you are on a 750 Ti-class GPU, do not host.

Official recommended

Recommended is still a last-generation 1070, which tells you the team is targeting a broad PC base, not an RTX-only showcase. 8 GB RAM is tight if Chrome, Discord, and Steam overlay are all open. Close the browser. Proximity voice plus a six-player session is CPU and netcode work, not just GPU work. NPC pooling was added because large sessions hurt.

Japanese press copy at one point listed a Ryzen 5 5500 as a minimum CPU with a note that it might drop. Steam’s English page is the i5-6600. Believe Steam for purchase decisions; treat older press sheets as outdated.

What Steam does not guarantee

• Save anytime: listed as an accessibility / gameplay feature.

Storage is 25 GB. Leave extra headroom for shader caches and future biomes. Early Access plans four more biomes across remaining layers; the download will grow. Do not install on a dying 32 GB partition.

Controllers and input hardware

Full controller support. Xbox controllers. DualShock USB only. DualSense USB only. If you planned to play from the couch on Bluetooth DS4, plug in or buy an Xbox pad. Keyboard and mouse remain the expected FPS default; remap in settings. Details in controls.

A microphone is a gameplay device, not an optional streamer toy. Enemies hear proximity voice. Pick the correct mic. A mechanical keyboard without push-to-talk is a lighting rig for creatures.

Launch-week PC reports

Steam discussion reports at Early Access: Windows 11 Smart App Control can block the game with error 0x11C7. With SAC on, launch fails; with SAC off, it starts; some players re-enabled SAC after launch and kept playing. That is a Windows policy issue, not a Tektonic slider. We are not going to walk you through disabling OS security. If your machine uses SAC, expect a friction point and check official discussions.

Other community reports: falling through floors and losing items, lobby disconnects. Those are session bugs, not spec failures. Still, a weak CPU makes netcode hitches worse. Host on the recommended spec, wired.

How this interacts with graphics options

Ultrawide 21:9+ is supported. Scroll sensitivity is a separate slider. Screen type can be changed in graphics settings. If you meet recommended spec and still stutter in Jungle foliage, drop to the auto preset, disable extra overlays, and try hosting fewer than six until a performance patch. Tree LODs, grass, shader preloading, and wall-torch rendering already got demo-era work — more biomes will stress it again.

If you pass these checks, you are ready for the Prologue. If you fail them, wait for a sale and a GPU, or watch a friend host. The maze is not more merciful on low spec. It is only darker.
