Inferno Protocol Maze Layers

Three biomes you can walk today. Two more on the public calendar. None of them keep still.

Maze Layers

Early Access Inferno Protocol is not one corridor with a filter. It is a circular, multi-versal stack. Tektonic’s Steam FAQ at the 28 August 2026 start named three playable layers: Junkyard, Jungle, Swamp. Press copy talked about deserts and frozen halls as places that should not be underground. A later studio post put Winter in September, Desert in December, and an unnamed drop in April. This page is how those biomes feel to walk, not a spoiler map. Marks still live in maze navigation. The hunt for a door lives in how to find the exit.

Junkyard — Ground Floor

Achievement: Ground Floor (Junkyard Layer). This is where most squads should spend the first weekend. Work lights, containers, rust, humanoid walkers with locational hit reactions. Spray contrast is high. Shotguns and brass knuckles earn their keep in interiors. Some buildings hold creatures by day and empty at night — a loot window, not a parade route.

Junkyard teaches the product: a corridor you used may not exist on the way home. Plant bear traps on chase lines. Light wall torches on verified routes back to the settlement. The trash eater (crocodile-like) shows up as a feeding puzzle: dynamite or grenades, then back off. Do not stand on the reward pile. See combat.

If you cannot loop Junkyard and return, you are not ready for Jungle foliage.

Jungle — Getting Warmer

Achievement: Getting Warmer (Jungle Layer). Foliage, low visibility, tree-line silhouettes, glowing-eyed stalkers near humming devices, plant-like hallway horrors in torch rooms. Noise is a tax. Official art puts katana and crossbow here for a reason. A six-stack shouting in proximity chat turns A-tier stalkers into a wipe. Walkie-talkies exist; the co-op guide is not optional in this biome.

Tree LODs and grass already ate demo-era performance work. Host on a recommended GPU. Night vision injectors help dark peeks; torches help the squad more than they help stealth. Pick a doctrine per room. Do not rage-inject and sprint an unmarked seam.

Swamp — Deep Enough

Achievement: Deep Enough (Swamp Layer). Wet, torch-dependent, fire barrels that rain can kill. Sound travels. Whisper. Cooking tables under roofs beat barrels. The crafting rain rule is a Swamp rule. If you learned Junkyard on open mics, Swamp will educate you.

Swamp is where unlabeled injectors start to look tempting. That is a trap with extra steps. Read injectors before you mainline glass because the water looks endless.

Winter, Desert, and the unnamed April drop

Tektonic posted a public Early Access calendar: Winter in September, Desert in December, something in April they were not ready to show. Steam’s questionnaire still says four more biomes across remaining layers over roughly nine to twelve months. Achievement Rock Bottom (Winter Layer) matches the ice promise. None of that makes Winter playable today.

When a layer ships it will be Steam news first, then this page, then the roadmap. Until a patch note names it live, do not rearrange your weekend around ice or sand.

Seams, shifts, and how to not lose home

Biome seams are where people lose the settlement. Slow down. Your Junkyard glyph still works in Jungle if you keep the shape, but your eyes will not. Drop a unique object at the seam. Notebook the time on the wrist watch. If the corridor behind you is gone, that is the maze, not a bug — unless you fell through a floor, which launch-week reviews also reported. Then check the last bed, not the abyss. Settings and patch notes if geometry is eating stashes.

Day-night is a layer inside a layer. Wrist watch on. Some interiors empty at night. Schedule the loot. Do not kick a noon door in a packed Junkyard shack and call it exploration.

Loadouts by biome, not by identity

  • Junkyard: shotgun, handgun, knuckles, barrels, traps.
  • Jungle: katana, crossbow, dual blades, quiet traps, night vision if you loot dark.
  • Swamp: traps under roof, explosives for grouped threats, fewer barrels, extra food.

Rankings: weapons, enemies. A kit that is S in Junkyard interiors is a flare gun in Jungle brush.

Walk one biome until the return trip is boring. Boring is how you notice the exit language on the walls.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Inferno Protocol survivors.

Which Inferno Protocol layers can I play right now?

Junkyard, Jungle, and Swamp. Winter, Desert, and later biomes are on the public calendar, not in the playable-three list. See the roadmap.

Should I skip Junkyard and go to Swamp?

No. Junkyard teaches stagger, marks, and the shift. If you cannot return to the settlement from Ground Floor, Swamp will only hide the same mistakes in rain.

When is the Winter layer coming?

Tektonic posted September as the Winter target. Treat that as intent. It is live when a Steam patch says it is live.

How do I not get lost between biomes?

Mark seams, keep a unique glyph, use the notebook and wrist watch. Full method is in maze navigation.
